Supermarine Spitfire FR XIV – G-Spit

A later Griffon powered Spitfire with a larger airframe, bubble canopy and clipped wingtips over its Merlin siblings. A Fighter Reconnaissance version, it was capable of carrying camera equipment as well as it’s normal Cannon and Machine gun armament.
G-SPIT was stored by the RAF in 1945 until she was sent to the Indian Air Force via 33 Maintenance Unit at RAF Lyneham. Here not much is known regarding her service with the Indian Air Force but was recovered back the UK in the 1970’s and restored in 1992 back to flying condition where she has remained active since.
