Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress – Sally B

One of the last B-17G aircraft to be built by the Lockheed-Vega Plant in Burbank, California, she start her service as a training aircraft before being selected for use as a research aircraft until 1954. Next she was purchased by the Institut Geographic National in France for surveying and mapping work, before finally being purchased by Ted White and residing at Duxford for the next 50 years becoming a staple on the airshow curcuit. Named after Ted’s long time companion, Elly Sallingboe who keeps Sally B flying to this day she serves as a flying memorial to the 79,000 US airman who died in the ultimate sacrifice over the skies of Europe between 1942 and 1945. The Starboard side of the aircraft depicts the movie famous Memphis Belle B-17G in which Sally B starred in many roles of the films creation.
