Fairey Swordfish I – W5856

W5856 based with Navy Wings at RNAS Yeovilton is the oldest still airworthy Swordfish in the in world. W5856 flew with the Mediterranean Fleet during the war, based out of Gibraltar. She was used for training from 1944 onwards, particularly with the Royal Canadian Navy before returning to the UK into civilian hands. She was restored the first time round in 1990 and once again from 2003 when BAE stepped in to create new Wing Spars to replace her corroded ones. Joining the display curcuit again in 2015 she is well looked after and aircraft and admired by the airshow crowds.
